CELL SORTING: FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

June 26-30, 2023

Wet intensive course

Cell sorting by flow cytometry (Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting, FACS) allows the purification of subpopulations of cells starting from a heterogeneous cell suspension. Compared to other methods of cell separation, cell sorting by using FACS allows to isolate more than one cell population simultaneously with high purity maintaining cell viability and sterility. The accuracy in sample preparation, the panel design and the adequate setting of the instrument are essential to obtain a high-quality cell sorting. This course aims at providing participants with the skills essential to optimally purify different cell populations by using cell sorting by flow cytometry.
This advanced program will provide: i) frontal lessons on cell sorting, ii) individual wet labs for sample preparation, instrument setting and cell population sorting, iii) individual dry labs to evaluate sorted sample purity and quality; iv) group discussion of the results and troubleshooting to acquire ability in managing and solving frequent problems encountered during the use of this technology. To be admitted to the course, participants are required a basic practical expertise in multi-color flow cytometry.
The course will be limited to 6 participants, to provide an intensive individual training under the personalized guidance of tutors.

Participants will be contacted in advance to discuss specific interests and tailor the course accordingly.
